Hello, darling reader. How are you? Things have become even more unsettling, haven’t they? Three-tier this, Rule of That. I have taken a few moments from staring out the window to get some thoughts down, an impossible task for the past month. Would you like some updates in small bites? Of course you would. A kindness I’m willing to afford you in exchange for your resilience to some pretty bland content and unnecessary swearing.

Progress

Everything came to a standstill after I built my desk. There is a reason for this but I’m not going to tell you to create drama. Things are now moving again in the form of MY FUCKING FIREPLACE, LADS. The rendering will be finished this week and the stove goes in on MONDAY. Fucking Monday?! WHAT.

Wait till you see the paint I bought for the recess. You’ll think it’s gross, but I think it’s magical and my taste is unparalleled.

My Birthday

On September 27th I turned 35. A week before this, the North East had further restrictions imposed due to the covvid, meaning my lunch for six became McDonald’s breakfast, cake, then Chinese takeaway for one. Friends dropped by with gifts, I didn’t get out of my pyjamas, and I didn’t wake up the next day hungover as fuck, rolling through the things I’d said to make me wonder why I had any friends at all. This year was much better, all things considered.

Covid

Something seemed to happened to us when the further restrictions came in a few weeks ago. The rage, the division, the confusion. It’s hard to tick stuff off your list when, as mentioned earlier, one can mostly manage staring out the window. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do, not sure how or what to plan, and not sure if any of it even matters. I don’t want to speak for everyone but… I think this goes for everyone.

Becoming a Carpenter

I bought a dowel jig and used my friend’s table saw a bit. I gave the table saw back because I kept envisioning the blade coming loose and creating a bloodbath. I have a mini jigsaw on the way; at least those visions mostly involve just my fingers. I’m currently experimenting with mitre cuts (by experimenting I mean I’d forgotten how angles work) and will be making some photo frames and plant stands as my first projects. Recycled materials only for now because it’s for the best and David Attenborough keeps saying.

In summary

We’re all just getting on with it, one announcement at a time, but if you would like some plant stands, let me know and I’ll get them to you in about a year or so. Love you, bye.

  1. mmmh son you will have a nice fireplace for those cold evening! (and Christmas!). Do you have some wood prepared in order to last all winter? 😀

    1. no, unfortunately, I live in an apartment where there is no room for it, but also, it’s not allowed anymore to have any kind of wood fire in Montreal. I think people could still get a gaz fireplace though, but I’m not sure.
Buuut I have an electric fireplace under my television to get the ambiance going in winter (soon!)
